Thank you for joining me on my first craft beer review. I am a bit of an amateur with regards to the terminology and descriptions needed to fully review a delicious brew, but hey, it’s a start. Besides, I am really excited to launch this platform to share my tasting experiences with the rest of my fellow “beer snobs”. For those of you that may have stumbled across this article in search of a craft beer gift idea, you are in luck, I have that for you too.
I will try to make it a point with each craft beer blog post to include an item that would make a great gift for the beer lover on your shopping list. Birthdays, Christmas, House Warming Gift, Father’s Day, whatever the case may be.

Craft Beer Review
The Herd Imperial IPA
I first tried The Herd Imperial IPA a couple of months ago when I visited the Great River Brewery, a micro brewery in Davenport, IA. It is classified as an Imperial / Double IPA. The Herd has an ABV of 7% (Alcohol By Volume) and an IBU (International Bitterness Units) of 95.
GRADE: On my UNTAPPD app I rated The Herd with 4 stars. The beer was cold and crisp. The Herd is a well balanced IPA and will make the taste buds sizzle with hoppy goodness. and made the taste buds sizzle with the and hoppy good! I would highly recommend this brew (and brewery) and look forward to my next visit to Davenport and maybe another bar stool visit at Great River Brewery.
Oatmeal Stout Dark
Oatmeal Stout Dark is exactly that, an oatmeal stout. It is extremely dark in color. This brew is a product of Breckenridge Brewery, a micro brewery in Denver, CO. Oatmeal Stout has an ABV of 4.95% (Alcohol By Volume) and an IBU (International Bitterness Units) of 36.
GRADE: On my UNTAPPD app, I rated this stout with only 3 out of 5 stars. This was my first oatmeal stout, so I hope I am not being too hard on it. This brew was not as smooth or creamy like I was expecting. The coffee flavor had a bit of a lingering bite to it. It was not bad by any means, it just had the “bite” to it that made it a tad bit harsh. but I will look forward to comparing this to similar oatmeal stout craft beers.
So what do you think? Have you tried these brews before? What advice can you give me to learn more about the terminology of craft beers? What brews do you recommend I try next?
Currently, I am using the UNTAPPD app to rate and track beers that I have tasted. If you would like to follow me on this website/app, here is a link: Wally D. on UNTAPPD.
On to the next!
